The steam capacity of boiler is defined as the amount of steam a boiler can produce per hour, measured in tonnes per hour (t/h). This figure is one of the most fundamental specifications in boiler selection. A properly matched capacity ensures production lines receive stable, sufficient steam without wasting energy or capital. Oversizing leads to unnecessary upfront investment and low partial-load efficiency. Undersizing means the boiler cannot meet peak demand, causing supply shortages that disrupt production.

Accurately assessing the steam capacity of boiler is therefore the essential first step in any procurement process. Several key factors influence the required capacity: the type of fuel (gas, oil, biomass, or coal), the heating surface area, the boiler’s structural design, and the feed water temperature. A lower feed water temperature increases the energy required to reach the target steam temperature, which directly affects the effective output. Plant managers must also account for system losses from piping and seasonal demand variations.

SZS Series Steam Boiler: 2–110 t/h

For higher demands, the SZS series is a water tube boiler with a double-drum, longitudinal D-type chamber structure. Its steam capacity of boiler ranges from 2 to 110 t/h, with working pressures from 1.25 to 5.3 MPa and steam temperatures up to 540°C. The furnace is surrounded by membrane water-cooled walls, minimizing heat loss and extending service life. Compatible with natural gas, diesel, heavy oil, and biogas, the SZS series achieves over 98% thermal efficiency with NOx emissions as low as 30 mg/Nm³. It is the preferred choice for power plants and large industrial facilities.

Biomass Fired Steam Boilers

DZL Series Horizontal Type Steam Boiler: 10–40 t/h

The DZL series horizontal type is a third-generation biomass boiler independently developed by ZOZEN, featuring a three-drum water tube structure with an assembly design. Its steam capacity of boiler ranges from 10 to 40 t/h, with working pressures of 1.25, 1.6, or 2.5 MPa. A tall furnace design (1–3 m) accommodates unshaped biomass fuel combustion, while an ash-blowing device on the tail convection surface allows ash removal without shutdown. With thermal efficiency exceeding 88%, this model is well suited for heating, chemical, food, and pharmaceutical applications.

SZL Series Biomass Steam Boiler: 6–35 t/h

The SZL series adopts a horizontal double-drum, vertical layout chain grate design. Its steam capacity of boiler spans 6 to 35 t/h, with working pressures from 1 to 2.5 MPa. The furnace is fully surrounded by water-cooled walls to maximize the radiation heating area, while independent air chambers ensure even air distribution for complete combustion across a wide range of biomass fuels. With thermal efficiency above 86% and automated operation, the SZL series is widely used in heating, textile, and brewing industries.

Coal Fired Steam Boilers

SZL Series Coal-Fired Steam Boiler: 6–35 t/h

For coal-fired applications, the SZL series covers a steam capacity of boiler from 6 to 35 t/h, with working pressures of 1–2.5 MPa. It features a horizontal double-drum structure with a chain grate combustion system. The front and rear arch furnace design promotes ignition and flame stability, while densely arranged water-cooled walls provide a large radiation area. With thermal efficiency above 81% and automated fuel feeding, ash removal, and slag discharge, it is widely used in heating, chemical, and brewing industries.

DZL Series Coal-Fired Steam Boiler: 2–10 t/h

The DZL series is designed for smaller capacity requirements, with a steam capacity of boiler ranging from 2 to 10 t/h and working pressures of 1–2.5 MPa. It features a compact horizontal single-drum structure with a moving grate, making it simple to operate and maintain. Threaded smoke tubes enhance heat transfer efficiency, while the straightforward combustion system keeps operational complexity to a minimum. With thermal efficiency above 80%, the DZL series is an economical choice for small-to-medium enterprises.

 

Part 3: Real-World Case: Finding the Right Steam Capacity of Boiler

Case 1: Based on the customer’s actual heat demand in Ecuador and the local heavy oil supply conditions, ZOZEN’s technical team customized a WNS series heavy oil steam boiler system — the WNS10-1.6-Y model with a steam capacity of boiler of 10 t/h at 1.6 MPa. The large-diameter corrugated furnace ensures full fuel combustion, and the system achieved over 98% thermal efficiency, delivering stable steam supply throughout the corrugating, bonding, and drying processes of the customer’s production line.

Case 2: DZW Series Biomass Steam Boiler for a Textile Plant in Karachi, Pakistan Pakistan is one of the world’s major textile exporting countries, and factories in Karachi have faced rising energy costs and tightening green supply chain requirements from international buyers. Based on the customer’s need for a reliable and cost-effective heat source, ZOZEN’s technical team customized a DZW series reciprocating grate biomass steam boiler — the DZW10-1.25-SS model with a steam capacity of boiler of 10 t/h at 1.25 MPa for this project. The reciprocating grate moves fuel progressively through the furnace for even and complete combustion, while the wide fuel adaptability accommodates cotton stalks, bagasse, wood chips, and biomass pellets. Thermal efficiency reaches above 86.7%, and an intelligent control system enables real-time parameter monitoring with comprehensive safety interlocks.

Case 3: SZL Series Coal-Fired Steam Boiler for a Palm Oil Plant in Indonesia Indonesia has a well-established palm oil value chain where every stage from sterilizing fresh fruit bunches to pressing and refining — requires continuous and stable steam supply. Based on the customer’s operational challenges, including fluctuating seasonal harvest cycles and variable local coal properties, ZOZEN’s technical team customized an SZL series 15 t/h coal-fired steam boiler — the SZL15-1.6-AII model with a steam capacity of boiler of 15 t/h at 1.6 MPa for this project. The chain grate with independent air chambers enables zoned and adjustable air distribution, enhancing combustion stability across different coal grades. Closely spaced water-cooled wall tubes increase the radiation area, achieving thermal efficiency above 81%. An advanced control system automates fuel feeding, ash and slag removal, reducing manual intervention significantly.
